It is the less soluble form of Brilliant Blue FCF, which, in turn, is the equivalent of Blue 1. This synthetic dye is very often used. The term "lake" applies to the pigment created from Brilliant Blue FCF blended with a metallic salt-aluminium or calcium-of necessity, to decrease its aqueous solubility as it is required to increase the stability in formulations that water solubility can make undesirable.
